GE15: Local businesses offer discounts for inked voters to encourage voter turnout

SHAH ALAM - To encourage voters to exercise their rights at the 15th General Election (GE15) tomorrow, several Malaysian local businesses hopped on the bandwagons to offer discounts to customers who show their fingers dipped with indelible ink.

Limoka Coffee founder Azrul Hanaffi Rauzan, 32, said the local neighbourhood café would offer free cups of coffee and donuts for Malaysians who have cast their ballots tomorrow as a part of its corporate social responsibility to the public.

“As Malaysians, it is our duty to vote for the betterment of the country hence we are doing our part to encourage more people to come out and vote,” he said.

Customers who wanted to redeem the free coffee and donuts could do so at the cafe located in Petaling Jaya by showing their index finger who has been dipped in ink.

When asked about his hope for GE15 and the outcome from the election, he said that he hoped for a clean, transparent government with leaders who could revive the Malaysian economy.

"We hope that the Malaysian economy will get better because I am a businessman, so I want all people to have a balanced economy, and of course, my priority is to have a Malaysia with zero corruption," he told Sinar Daily.

Meanwhile, Runchit KL, a convenience store in Wangsa Maju, would give away 50 boxes of 125ml boxes of milk tomorrow with a minimum purchase of RM10.

Runchit KL administrator Siti Atiqah Kamarul Zaman, 31, said the promotion was held to raise awareness about the importance to vote in GE15.

"The reason for Runchit KL to do this giveaway is to raise awareness about voting in the 15 general elections, particularly among young people, and Malaysia needs to be responsible to our country; we hope the greatest number of voters turn out tomorrow," she said.

All Runchit KL customers had to do was to show their inked finger between from 10am to 6pm at the outlet.

Rembulan KL founder Farah Wahidah Abdul Aziz, 33, said 50 Malaysians would be able to get a 16-ounce latte for only RM 10 tomorrow from 5pm to midnight at the café in Ampang.

"We are doing this discount to raise awareness for Malaysians to vote while also enjoying our lattes, and I hope whomever party leads tomorrow can change Malaysia to be a better Malaysia," she said.

Another local business Saudagar Kambing Bakar in Shah Alam would also offer a five per cent discount on takeout and discounted purchases with no limit on Nov 20 (the day after the election) if they show the inked fingerprint.

Saudagar Kambing Bakar administrator Nur Hafikh Mohamad, 27, said this was the first time to join such movement and he was excited to be a part of businesses that create awareness to Malaysians on the importance to vote.

Other than these local businesses, Malaysians could also enjoy discounts at many other bigger outlets tomorrow such as Nando’s, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart, Lilit, Marrybrown, Taco Bell, and many more.
