SHAH ALAM - Economist Group's research and analysis division based in the United Kingdom, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has predicted Barisan Nasional (BN) will win the 15th General Election (GE15).
Citing Dagang News, its lead economist, Fung Siu, said he also expects Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to be re-elected as Prime Minister.
However, he said the coalition led by Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was predicted to fail in securing a two-thirds majority to form the government.
"This is likely to lead to a unity government consisting of BN and smaller conflicting parties," he said in a statement today.
Fung Siu added that lowering the voting age from 21 to 18 under the Undi18 initiative is unlikely to change the general voting pattern, but voters will return to race-based preferences.
The Undi18 initiative, along with automatic voter registration, led to an estimated 6.23 million registered electors for GE15.
About 21 million registered voters in the country will be casting their ballots on Saturday to elect the next government.
