GE15: Universities providing transport for students to go back home to vote

SHAH ALAM - Several institutions of higher learning (IPT) took the initiative to provide transportation for its students to go back to their hometowns.

This initiative is to help them fulfill their voting obligations in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) provided 42 buses to send 1,355 students back to their constituencies from Thursday to Friday.

" We provide free buses for the students to return to their hometowns. So please use this opportunity to fulfil your responsibilities as a voter this GE15," he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) also took the initiative to provide express bus services to bring its 1,600 students home to vote.

Its Deputy Vice-Chancellor (UTM Student Affairs), Professor Dr Shamsul Sahibuddin said 43 buses including three buses belonging to the university were provided for the students to be able to go home to vote.

" Students only have to pay between RM20 and RM50 according to the location of their hometowns," he said.

In addition, a total of 50 buses were provided by the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) to help 2,040 students to go back home to vote, The initiative under the 'Ops Student UIAM Pulang Mengundi' programme was organised by the Office of the Deputy Rector (Student Development and Community Libatsama) in collaboration with the Student Development and Affairs Division, the Student Union and the Friends Club of Anak Malaysia.

In a statement IIUM said for students returning to Sabah and Sarawak, a van and three buses were provided for them to make their way to KLIA.
