GEORGE TOWN - The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is conducting a search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate two men reported missing while fishing in the state's waters today.

Penang MMEA director Capt (Maritime) Abd Razak Mohamed said they initially received information about the discovery of a boat adrift without crew near Batu Maung at about 8.20 am today before they proceeded to the scene for further inspection.

"Sebaik tiba di lokasi bot dengan nombor pendaftaran PPS 7216 telah ditemui berada di sangkar ikan Batu Maung yang dibawa oleh nelayan berhampiran bagi menggelakkan bot tersebut terus hanyut ke lokasi lain namun tiada kru dalam bot itu.

"Upon arriving at the location, the boat with registration number PPS 7216, was manned by nearby fishermen to prevent it from drifting away.

"Preliminary checks found identification documents belonging to M. Gunalan, 46, in the boat and subsequent checks also revealed that the man's wife lodged a police report at the Bukit Tambun police station, stating that her husband had gone out to sea with his friend V. Muraley, 53, and failed returned home since 5 am today," he said in a statement today.
