Anwar will not contest if he’s not the PM candidate
SITI NURAZLINA JAMALUDINARAU - Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim admits that he will not want to contest in the 15th General Election (GE15) if it was not because he was nominated as Prime Minister (PM).
Anwar, who is also a Tambun Parliamentary candidate, said he had no problem to give up the nomination because he was confident that many young leaders in the party were qualified.
"In Arau, we (PH) will fight Shahidan (Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim) which I am not sure from which party.
“He's my old friend but can't contest again. If he wants to give advice, I will say not necessary
"If it wasn't for me being a candidate for Prime Minister (for PH), I wouldn't have taken it (contesting), it's enough.
“Give it to the young people because many of them are capable but because they (PH) accord me as a candidate for Prime Minister, I am contesting.
"Because Shahidan is not a candidate for Prime Minister, there is no need for it," he said while delivering a speech at the Kenduri Rakyat PH in Kampung Mengkuang Layar here on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Anwar also denied claims that he was too greedy for the position of Prime Minister.
"Many people say that Anwar is crazy to be Prime Minister when everyone knows if I want that position, I could be the Prime Minister. Well, it's not difficult, just kiss the old man's hand (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad), and that's it.
"Didn't 15 Umno MPs previously expressed their support for me to become Prime Minister?
"But I took a stand and did not sign the supporting documents because Umno set the condition that if I want to become Prime Minister, I have to clear the court cases of their leaders first.
“If I was really greedy to become Prime Minister, I must have signed the document already," he said.
