Politically Frank: Cikgu Rahayu taps into youth, women to bring in change in Tanjong Karang

SHAH ALAM - Tanjong Karang Muda candidate Siti Rahayu Bahrin is set to woo youth and women to take over Tanjong Karang.

Well-known as Cikgu Rahayu said as politics is still known to be male-dominated, she wants to bring in more women and youth in her campaign strategy.

“This is the time for the young and women to be more involved, to be invited more into the realm of politics because politics is not only for a certain age, not only for the certain gender but it is for everyone,” she said during Sinar Daily's Politically Frank.

Barisan Nasional's Tan Sri Noh Omar have been holding onto the constituency for six terms and was dropped by the party in this upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

Rahayu acknowledged the strength of her opponents.

“I have to be honest, I am quite afraid. I’ve read data and I know BN have been here for six terms and their supporters are big," she said, adding that if there is persistance for change, there would be a change.

She was also known to be a teacher for 15 years and seven years working with children in Chow Kit, a co-founder of Buku Jalanan Chow Kit that encourages children to read and learn Mathematics, English and Bahasa.

Bringing the idea of education to Tanjong Karang, Rahayu shares her idea to empower every child and not only kids in certain places.

“Some people told me if I want to come here in Tanjong Karang, I cannot bring the idea of education because that doesn’t cover the local issues.

“For me, children’s education is a local issue. Everywhere in Malaysia as it’s not only about teaching and learning in class but also the livelihood of the kids in future,” she said.

Due to that, Rahayu has set her mind to fight for education of every child regardless of where she was placed.
