Flood victims rise to 2,373 people in six states

SHAH ALAM – The total number of flood victims throughout the country rises to 2,373 in Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kelantan, Johor, and Melaka as of 4pm on Sunday.

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) in a statement on its Facebook page said Kelantan recorded the highest number of 1,468 victims, followed by Selangor (393), Johor (306), Perak (108), Penang (54) and Melaka (44).

In Kelantan, a total of 510 families were placed in seven temporary evacuation centers (PPS) involving the Pasir Mas area.

In Selangor, a total of 95 families were placed in six PPS involving the Klang and Kuala Selangor areas while Penang recorded 11 families placed in one PPS.

70 families were placed in six PPS in Johor, in Perak, a total of 32 families were placed in one PPS.

In addition, a total of 15 families were placed in two PPS in the Alor Gajah area.

The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) issued a notice of possible flash floods in several areas in Terengganu, Selangor, Penang, Perak, Kedah, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, and Pahang.

“It is hoped that the residents in the surrounding areas are prepared to face any possibilities,” it said.

JPS said there are three rivers that have its water readings at a dangerous level; Long Jegan, Miri, Sarawak; Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, Kelantan and Melaka River in Batu Hampar, Melaka as of 3pm.

There were eight rivers where the water readings at a cautionary level; Long Teru and Marudi, Miri, Sarawak; Sertim River at Pedang Gudang Bridge, Bera, Pahang; Selangor River in Rantau Panjang Kuala Selangor; Siam River in Kampung Sungai Siam, Kulai, Johor; Lenik River in Ladang Chaah, Segamat, Johor; Parit Keliling in Kampung Pasir, Johor Bahru, Johor and Sungai Linggi in Pekan Linggi, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.
