SHAH ALAM – Caretaker Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has ordered his lawyer to file a defamation suit towards Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Deputy President Rafizi Ramli, as soon as the former receives a written response from Rafizi’s lawyer or after the expiry period of the given seven days.

He said Rafizi’s statement including the press release on Friday was slanderous and meant to destroy his reputation as well as the Pas party publicly.

“The demands letter to Rafizi was sent by my lawyers, Messrs. Yusfarizal Aziz & Zaid on Nov 10, 2022.

“Among the demands presented is that Rafizi was to give a written promise to stop making any statements regarding the accusations he made against me and have an apology within seven days of the letter.

“The seven-day period will end on Nov 17, 2022,” he said in a statement aired on his Facebook on Saturday.

Rafizi in a press release on Monday claimed for an explanation from the Pas Vice President regarding the status of the Langat River 2 flood mitigation project worth RM2 billion that was claimed to be in the awaiting approval process.

However, Tuan Ibrahim in a response statement on Tuesday informed that there was no approval given towards any allocation of funds during the interim government.

Rafizi once again made a press release on Friday to comment further on the issue as well as give his answer towards the new claims.

The Pas Vice President claimed the press release only strengthened the suspicion of many parties which is that Rafizi only made false accusations and distort facts.

“In the press conference, Rafizi stated the letter dated Oct 7, 2022, was released by the Treasury Secretary Chief to the Environment and Water Ministry (Kasa) Secretary Chief to inform the decision of the finance minister to approve the Langat River 2 flood mitigation project in direct negotiation with Mangkubumi Sdn Bhd.

“Based on the letter, it was clear that the approval was not made by me or Kasa.

“The letter was released on Oct 7, 2022, before the Parliament was dissolved and not when there was the interim government,” he said.

He said the press release made by Rafizi failed to expose the proof of his involvement in the project’s approval including his or Kasa’s efforts to award the project during the interim government.

“I have stated clearly that I had never met, consulted or taken any actions during the interim government period towards awarding the project,” he explained.
