MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for several states in peninsula, Sabah, Sarawak

SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning in several states in the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak until 5pm on Nov 12.

In a statement, MetMalaysia said thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds were expected in Perlis, Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik and Baling), Perak (Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim)

It was also expected to occur in Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Bera, Pekan and Rompin), Selangor (Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang), WP Kuala Lumpur, WP Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.

The areas affected in Sarawak would be Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang.

Meanwhile in Sabah, the bad weather was expected to occur at Pantai Barat, Tawau (Tawau, Kunak and Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat.

The warning issued at 1pm was expected to be in effect until 5pm on Saturday.

According to the agency, an alert was issued when there were signs that indicated a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm/hour that was near or expected to occur for more than an hour.

"A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid within a period not exceeding six hours for a single issue," the statement said.
