SHAH ALAM - Rasuah Busters has welcomed the decision by the Election Commission to prevent mobile phones while casting votes on Nov 19.

Its chief executive officer Nurhayati Nordin said the decision was apt to prevent potential personal data leakage during polling.

“Elections that are transparent and not tainted by elements of corruption in determining the country's leadership are the foundation of a democratic system.

“Nevertheless, the public still needs to play a role in reporting to the EC if there is an attempt to break relevant rules or there are still suspicious incidents during the election,” she told Sinar Daily.

Nurhayati further urged EC and authorities to observe and remind candidates to be prudent during their campaigning session.

“We urge the EC and the authorities to monitor and remind candidates to campaign prudently, follow the rules, and not try to manipulate the people so that the 15th General Election (GE15) is run fairly.

“Be strict on voters or candidates who violate the rules or ethics that have been set,” she said.

EC has announce it will not allow any mobile phones at the polling centre for the GE15.

The EC also has released an infographic on their Facebook page, assisting voters to leave their mobiles at polling centre designated table, before stepping into the ballot box
