GE15: Mahathir thanks EC for banning mobile phones at polls
SYDI ALIFSHAH ALAM – Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad expressed his gratitude to the Election Commission for banning mobile phones at the polling centres. "I thank the EC for accepting the proposal to ban mobile phones while voting. This is important to prevent parties from bribing voters after their votes have been cast and to maintain the secrecy of votes," Dr Mahathir tweeted today morning.
Attached to his tweet was the 10 steps infographic for polling day provided by the EC.
This was following his suggestion on his Facebook page to ban mobile phones as it will nullify the secrecy of a voter's ballot and that political parties would be subject to bribery and corruption.
“ Voters can reveal via mobile phone the party they voted for and the party can pay them (for their vote),” Dr Mahathir had wrote.
He also had suggested that there was still quite a number of election flaws that needed to be fixed by the Election Commission before the15th General Election (GE15).
