GE15: PH ready to withdraw Ramanan’s candidacy if there’s substantial evidence - Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR - Pakatan Harapan (PH) is ready to withdraw the nomination of Datuk R. Ramanan in Sungai Buloh parliament if there is any evidence of him violating the laws of the country.
PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said any allegations must be substantiated with evidence and facts and if Ramanan were guilty of any crime, it would only be that he was once a member of MIC.
“(For) all our candidates (in PH), I have checked with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the commercial crime (police).
“Perception and what people say (about Ramanan) are different.
“Some people even say I’m an Israeli agent, (some say) we cannot support Anwar because he is LGBT, or an American agent,” he said during an anti-corruption forum here today.
He was responding to an audience’s question about how he handled internal party issues.
Anwar also said that PH had screened all the candidates who were picked before nominating them for 15th General Election (GE15).
“I pay attention when it (problems) arises and see whether there is (any issue).
“He (Ramanan) used to be MIC, that is the only so-called ‘offence’, but he is fighting against Umno.
“There are many other issues questioned, such as ECM Libra, the fourth floor, vaccine, during his ministerial time.
“If there is evidence, facts, bring it. I will wait,” he said.
Anwar said there were many rumours about Ramanan but there was no evidence to show that the Sungai Buloh candidate was linked to an alleged RM5.5 million fraud case.
He also said he believed that Ramanan would win the Sungai Buloh seven-cornered fight in GE15.
