SHAH ALAM - The Selangor government today agrees to declare Nov 18 – which is a day before the polling day – as public holiday ahead of the 15th General Election (GE15).

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the matter was decided through the Selangor State Government Meeting (MMKN) on Wednesday.

He said the decision will be approved next Wednesday after reviewing the legal background and justification.

"Alhamdulillah, in less than 24 hours I have received the decision and we have decided, but the general decision needs to be approved next week.

"We also need to carry out the gazetting process, but if the federal government wants to do the same (public holiday on Friday), then we will withdraw it.

"But first let Selangor start the initiative as an encouragement to other states and the federal government which I think will benefit everyone regardless of party," he said.

He said this in a press conference at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (SSAAS) building, here on Wednesday.
