SHAH ALAM - Independent Batu candidate Tian Chua says Batu has attracted the highest number of independent candidates as P Prabakaran won the seat on independent candidate in the 14th General Election (GE14).
However, he stated it was not his responsibility to evaluate Prabakaran's performance in Batu.
“I think the voters in Batu will have to make a decision whether his performance is up to theirs or not,” he said during Sinar Daily's Fireside Chat programme.
The former PKR deputy president said during the last GE14, he pushed people to vote for the lesser-known candidate, and about 65% of voted.
“Independent candidates are everywhere, maybe it's a sign of democracy.
Furthermore, he said there are no fixed voters in GE15 due to the significant migration of voters from one location to another.
He said that we should see people as something other than bloc voters.
“I think voters don't like to be treated that they are a bloc for PH, or Pas or Barisan Nasional.
“I think we are entering into an era that people are mature enough and wise enough to make decisions for themselves and for this country.
Batu parliament became the focal point after a 10-corner fight was announced during the nomination day on Nov 5.
In 2018, Tian Chua's application to contest in Batu was rejected by Election Commission (EC) on grounds that the two-term incumbent was imposed with a RM2,000 fine for insulting the modesty of a police officer.
This year, however, everything changed when Tian Chua returned to Batu as an independent candidate to defend his seat.
In addition to the two candidates, he will also be going against Perikatan Nasional, Pejuang and Warisan.
