PASIR MAS - Two people died when the car they were traveling in collided with an express bus in Kampung Bendang Pauh here on Sunday.

The 5am incident saw two victims killed which were the driver of the car, Mohd Yusairie Osman, 38, and the front passenger, Abdul Majid Hamid, 37.

The 58-year-old bus driver only suffered minor injuries while about 20 passengers who were on the bus survived.

Tanah Merah Fire and Rescue Department station Assistant Chief Mohd Zulkifli Osman said the department received a distress call on the incident at 5.08am which informed about the accident between an express bus from Kuala Lumpur heading to Pasir Mas which collided with a Toyota car from the direction of Pasir Mas to Tanah Merah in Bendang Pauh village.

"One victim was pinned in the car while the other was thrown out of the car.

"The rescue team from Tanah Merah rushed to assist the operation using cutting tools to remove the trapped victims," he said when contacted by reporters here on Sunday.

He said the two victims were pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers.

"The victims were handed over to the police for further action. The operation ended at 6.55am," he said.
