KOTA KINABALU – Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) president Datuk Peter Anthony was arrested to assist investigation believed to be over the commotion which takes place at nomination centre in Tenom, yesterday.

Peter was arrested by the police on midnight on Sunday but the Melalap state assemblyman was released on police bail on Sunday.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah said the arrest was a result of a commotion incident during the nomination process for the Tenom Parliamentary candidate on Saturday.

"A police report was received on the same date and the police have conducted an investigation. Investigation papers were opened under Section 24A (2) of the Elections Act 1954 and Section 147 of the Penal Code.

"Further police investigations led to the arrest of KDM President Datuk Peter Anthony to assist the police investigation," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said Peter was later released after his statement was recorded and the documentation process was done.

"The police investigation and documentation went smoothly and he was later released on police bail this morning," he said.

It was reported that the nomination process for the Tenom Parliament at Dewan DSP Antanom, Tenom yesterday was chaotic after Peter's nomination was rejected by the Election Commission (EC).
