He said the review needs to be done for the court to decide whether he is eligible or not to run as a candidate in the Tenom constituency.
He claimed that the EC rejected his nomination papers at the last minute after he went through the nomination process smoothly without any problem.
"We have complied with all the procedures and paid the RM15,000 (nomination deposit). All documents were checked and they (EC) told me the papers were complete and in order," he told reporters here today.
Peter said he was informed that his nomination was rejected on several grounds, adding that he would not accept it if it was related to his court case because the sentence has stayed in the case.
The Tenom seat will witness a five-cornered contest with Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Noorita Sual of DAP defending the seat she won in the GE14, against Jamawi Jaafar (BN-Umno), Ukim Buandi (Parti Warisan) and independent candidates, Riduan Rubin and Peggy Chaw Zhi Ting.
Earlier, a video clip showing a riot caused by party supporters outside the nomination centre at the DSB Antanom Hall here went viral on social media.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said he was waiting for a detailed report on the matter.
On May 26, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court found Peter guilty of falsifying a letter on contract work for maintenance and service of the mechanical and electrical system at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and sentenced him to three years in prison and an RM50,000 fine.
On Aug 1, the court allowed the former Sabah Infrastructure Development Minister’s application for a stay of his sentence and conviction. - BERNAMA
