KOTA MARUDU - Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) President Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili faces an intense challenge through the six-corner fight to defend the Kota Marudu Parliamentary seat during the 15th General Election (GE15).

Maximus, who is also the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) contested on the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) ticket and submitted the nomination form at 9.11am on Saturday at the Kota Marudu Community Hall.

He would face Datuk Wetrom Bahanda from Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM), Pejuang’s Mohd Azmi Zulkiflie, Sharizal Denci (Muda) Jilid @ Zainuddin Kuminding (Warisan), and Norman Tulang (indepent).

The Kota Marudu Parliament was previously one of the 'hot' seats and was sought after by various political parties, causing Wetrom, who is also a member of the State Legislative Assembly of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to leave the party.

Wetrom then joined KDM and expressed his intention to contest for the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat.

Meanwhile, Sharizal who came to the nomination center was seen fully dressed in ‘Dusun Kimaragang’ attire and also intended to seize the Kota Marudu Parliamentary seat in order to bring change to the area.
