GE15: Nurul Izzah faces four-cornered fight in Permatang Pauh
PERMATANG PAUH - The Permatang Pauh Parliamentary seat will witness a four-cornered fight at the 15th General Election (GE15).
The matter was announced by Permatang Pauh Parliamentary Election Returning Officer Muzkhairil Muhamad after the nomination form submission process was held at the National Youth Institute of Higher Skills Hall (IKBTN) in Bukit Mertajam here, on Saturday.
The incumbent of the seat, Nurul Izzah Anwar, 42, (Pakatan Harapan) will face her rivals, Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said, 53 (BN), Muhammad Fawwaz Mat Jan, 39 (Perikatan Nasional) and Mohamad Nasir Othman, 64 (GTA- Pejuang ).
Muzkhairil said they were satisfied with the overall candidate nomination process which ended at 10 am.
He also informed that no nomination forms were rejected after they received documents from all the candidates that were present at the centre.
Nurul Izzah had previously retained PKR's dominance in the Permatang Pauh Parliament since 1998 when she won GE14 with a majority of 15,668 votes.
She obtained 35,534 votes which defeated BN candidate Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said who obtained 19,866 votes and Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden from Pas (14,428 votes).
The seat was previously held by either Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or his wife, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail since 1982.
