Man fell asleep during theft bid due to drug overdose
KLANG - Police have arrested a man who failed in his bid to commit theft at a restaurant in Johan Setia, here, after he fell asleep at the premises due to drug overdose.
Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong said the restaurant owner in a report said the back door of the premises was broken at around 8.30am and a man was found lying on the floor.
Cha said upon receiving information, a team of personnel from the Klang Selatan District Police Headquarters (IPD) arrested a local man at the scene.
"When the arrest was made, the man was found to have sustained injuries on his head and face. It is believed that he had been beaten up by the public at the place of the incident.
"The 23-year-old suspect was then taken to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) for further examination," he said in a statement on Friday.
He said initial investigation found that during the incident, the suspect had broke into the eatery through the back door by prying the door open.
"The suspect broke into the shop to commit theft, but he fell asleep instead due to overdose on drugs he consumed before the incident.
"However, nothing was missing from the shop," Cha said.
He added that the suspect has a criminal record for a drug offence.
"The investigation is still ongoing and the case is being investigated under Section 453 of the Penal Code," he said.
