SHAH ALAM - Since it is important for youths to go out to vote, Gema Malaysia Youth Organisation (Gema Youth) called on the group to be directly involved in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Its president Nasim Ralim said the approach by Gema Youth to attract youth's interest was by organising the #SatuJariTurunUndi TikTok contest campaign.

Nasim who is also the director of the contest said it was one of the efforts by the organisation after finding that there were still many young voters who were not ready to go out to vote in GE15 stating various excuses.

He said among the factors were that youths preferred to take the "let's wait and see" approach, besides not being aware that their names were already in the electoral roll.

"Upon realisation of such situation, Gema Youth and Rasuah Busters initiated the #SatuJariTurunUndi TikTok contest that will take place from Nov 1 to Nov 20.

"Through this campaign, youths aged between 18 to 30 will get the chance to show their talents by preparing creative content on the TikTok platform.

"The main objective was to invite Malaysians especially new voters to vote along with instilling awareness that Malaysia could head towards a positive direction through the ballot box," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Nasim said Gema Youth was confident with the out-of-the-box thinking by the youths in delivering the message.

He said with the support from Rasuah Busters and Gema Youth's experience, the contest was expected to reach 5,000 participants and a total of 10 million views on TikTok.

He said various attractive prizes were up for grabs.

There will be several categories and the main prize will be the iPhone 14 Pro, he said adding that there will be a weekly lucky draw.

"We are excited to start the campaign and hope to get a good response among the youths to equally enliven GE15 for the sake of the country.
