GE15: Pas won't contest in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU - For the first time, Sabah Pas has not fielded a candidate and will therefore not contest the General Election (GE) held this time.
The party decided this as a sign of to support the national unification principle initiated by Pas.
Pas Sabah secretary Dr Aliakbar Gulasan said several important decisions were taken through discussions with the main leadership of Pas Pusat and agreed in a special meeting of Sabah State Pas Liaison (PPNS) held on Wednesday night.
"Pas Sabah has taken several important decisions, namely not fielding candidates to contest in GE15 in Sabah.
"All Pas members and supporters are instructed to assist and vote for all candidates representing the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) - Barisan Nasional (BN) Sabah parties as a sign of supporting the national unification principle initiated by Pas," he said in a statement on Wednesday night.
In this regard, Aliakbar, who is also a State Legislative Assembly appointed member (ADUN) said that the Sabah Pas would coordinate machinery comprehensively at the state and regional levels in the state.
Previously, Pas Sabah had expressed its interest in fielding candidates in several Parliaments, including in Sepanggar and other areas.
Sabah Pas, in the last Sabah State Election also did not field a candidate and the decision was taken to preserve the consensus with its allies at that time.
