IPOH - Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dato’ Abdul Rahman Yaakub in Bota Kanan, Parit is the first school in Malaysia to receive Taiwan's green technology and innovation input under Taiwan Excellence's ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Campaign.

Taiwan Excellence in a statement said the school is one of 20 schools in Perak that had participated in the Eco-Schools Programme since 2019 and was recently awarded the coveted Green Flag Award.

"The school is committed to environmental education through the Eco-Schools Programme which is primarily private sector funded through the companies' ESG initiatives.

"For Eco-Schools Perak, Perak MB Inc is the main sponsor, committing RM1.2 million over three years," said the statement.

It added that the programme was held to showcase the long-term, sustainable partnership between local and international companies, federal and state departments and agencies, funders, and the Eco-Schools Programme national operator, Green Growth Asia Foundation (GGAF).

Meanwhile, in the same statement, Perak MB Inc chief operating officer Nor Afzanizam Abd Manan said Perak MB Inc aims to achieve at least 100 Eco-Schools by 2025.

"The community of youth in the state is our focus and funding the Eco-Schools Programme here will definitely contribute towards both and obtain a good ESG score down the journey," he added.

GGAF advisor for Eco-Schools Perak Aznan Alias, also in the statement, said the programme is to spread the awareness of Environment and Society as two of the ESG pillars to industry players.

The GGAF targets 1000 Eco-Schools in the country by 2025 involving the state Education Departments, local authorities, state agencies, universities and the ESG-focused private sectors.
