The hashtag #instagramdown is now tending worldwide on twitter.
It was reported that the issue seemed to be concentrated among iPhone users, with some claiming that their app had already been crashing earlier in the day.
According to DownDetector, the problems started at around 13:08 GMT and were affecting users globally.
The Daily Mail reported that users were also claiming that they were losing followers, most likely due to suspended users being removed from the follower count.
Twitter has been flooded with memes and postings about Instagram crashing with many stating that they relieved that it was a glitch and not a personal issue.
However, user @gl0diva summed things up for many when she tweeted: “Instagram trying to give us a little scare for Halloween haha. Ok fun’s over. Give my account back #instagramdown”.
