SHAH ALAM - Incumbent Batu MP P. Prabakaran is the right fit to defend Batu Parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election as he has been serving his constituents well, said PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli.

He said Prabakaran was selected due to his excellent service and a way to encourage more young Indians to represent Parliamentary seats in the country.

“Firstly, he (Prabakaran) has been on the ground so he really has been serving the area and has received positive feedback from the voters in Batu.

“Secondly and most importantly, there are not many Indian seats in this country and there are not many Parliamentary seats where an Indian candidate can stand,” he told Sinar Daily.

This, he said, is due to the fact that many of the Indian leaders are seniors who are in their 50s and 60s.

Commenting further, he said PKR will continue to support young leaders to serve the community without taking into account their age and background as long as they are good.

“If we do not allow a young Indian like Prabakaran to continue serving, it's almost like telling a minority group, they have limited space,'' he said.

Rafizi also added that the young Indians in PKR have the best opportunity compared to any other parties such as MIC.

Prabakaran, 26 won the Batu seat in 2018 and currently the youngest MP in the Malaysian Parliament.
