Police: Store explosion at MB Kedah’s residence has element of treason

ALOR SETAR - Kedah police are still investigating the explosion of a container cabin in the official residence of Kedah’s Menteri Besar on Oct 16.

Kedah Police Chief Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said the police were still conducting further investigations in detail to identify the suspects involved in the incident.

He said initial investigation suspected that the incident had an element of treason due to the use of explosives.

"The police received a report regarding the incident that happened at 3.49pm, last Oct 18.

"The police investigation at the scene found that there was severe damage to the cabin of the container," he said in a press release on Friday.

Wan Hassan said the container cabin was used as storage and placed at the back of the Menteri Besar's official residence (Seri Mentaloon).

"Police also found some samples and evidence believed to be explosives.

“All the samples found have been sent to the laboratory for analysis," he said.

Wan Hassan said the investigation was carried out in accordance with Section 436 of the Penal Code which was treason by using explosives against a house and if found guilty could be sentenced to prison for up to 20 years or a fine.

"The police are conducting further investigations, the public is asked not to make any speculations regarding the incident," he said.

Previously, on Oct 17, there was an incident where a sign on the front fence of Seri Mentaloon was splashed with red and blue paint.
