KELANA JAYA - Damansara incumbent Parliamentary seat representing DAP Tony Pua announces he will not contest in the 15th General Election (GE15).

He said the decision was made on his own will without being influenced by any parties.

"Tonight, it pains me to announce that I will not be contesting in the upcoming election.

"Anthony Loke, Govind Singh, Deo and the others tried to persuade me to stay, but this is my decision that I have thought about for years to step down (as an MP)," he said at the Damansara Parliament funds collection dinner ceremony, here on Wednesday.

He said even though he would not contest, he would continue to aid DAP to achieve its goals and win in GE15.

"However, I did not leave the team and I also give my trust to the team and changes.

"I know my strengths and weaknesses, I will use them to benefit the party in achieving its goals and in the election, I will play the role of the party's publicity machinery.

"I am happy to contribute to its policy and implementation.

“When we win as government, I will help the DAP ministers in empowering the economy and Malaysia," he said.

Loke expressed his sadness towards Tony Pua's decision but respected it.

He said Tony Pua was among the most hardworking MP in Malaysia who invested his time and energy to propel the party as well as leaders forward, did not himself but instead prioritised the people.
