PETALING JAYA - DAP has fielded Kota Kemuning assemblyman V Ganabatirau as its candidate for the Klang parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).

This effectively confirmed an earlier rumour concerning the party’s intention to not allow Charles Santiago to defend his incumbent parliamentary seat of Klang.

Ganabatirau’s candidacy was announced last night by DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook at a fundraiser here.

While he did not mention Santiago by name, Loke said: “I stress that we appreciate the contribution of all our leaders.”

Santiago had a stellar electoral record in Klang, winning three general election since 2008 with increased majority of 17,701 in 2008; 24,685 in 2013 and 78,773 in 2018.

Loke also announced other candidates for three parliamentary seats in Selangor.

The trio candiates are:

  1. Syahredzan Johan (Bangi)
  2. Yeo Bee Yin (Puchong)
  3. Gobin Singh Deo (Damansara
Syahredzan’s candidacy – one which succeeded Bangi’s two-term MP, Ong Kian Ming who wanted to “recharge and regroup” – was, said Loke needed as the party intends to be a “truly multiracial party.”

“Of course, we are grateful for the support of the Chinese and Indian communities. Without them, there would be no DAP today.

“But for DAP to go further...we must also get the support of the Malay community to make DAP a truly multiracial and Malaysian party,” said Loke.

GE15 will be Syahredzan’s political debut. He was previously the political secretary for DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.
