PUTRAJAYA - PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had no choice but to contest at Tambun after failing to earn the trust of Malay voters at his incumbent parliamentary constituency -- Port Dickson.

This was the claim from Pribumi Bersatu supreme council member, Datuk Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali who also revealed that Anwar had initially planned to contest in Gombak before ultimately settling for Tambun.

“Anwar left Port Dickson and nearly choosed Gombak to run his parliamentary seat, finally he ran to Tambun after losing supports from Malay voters in Gombak,” he said after attending a Perikatan Nasional rally here, last night.

Azmin added that Anwar had no choice but to contest in Tambun since there are more non-malays voters there.

“The reason he lost trust in Gombak is because we (Malays) don’t choose greedy people.

"He wanted to become PM so badly but has never been able to do so,” needled Azmin who left PKR to join Pribumi Bersatu on February 23, 2020.

On September 12, Anwar said the party would go all-out to reclaim constituencies from "political frogs" who betrayed the voters' mandate.

Anwar was referring to the Sheraton Move which saw a faction, led by Azmin, defecting from PKR; resulting the downfall of the Pakatan Harapan government in 2020.
