Married couple sought fame, shoved into infamy instead over staged road rage videos
PENAMPANG - A married couple's bid to garner social media fame had ironically landed them in infamy after their staged road rage videos were debunked by the police.
Penampang district police chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim had today clarified that the contentious two videos depicting the couple being rough handled by a road bully in Jalan Putatan were nothing more than mere shams.
"We have summoned the owner of the social media account [who uploaded the videos] to for a statement and discovered that the video was staged and published for social media content.
"It was to get viewership on social media," said Mohd Haris in a statement issued today, adding that the matter was investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
In light of the incident, he also advised Malaysians to be careful when uploading and sharing social media content that can cause public confusion and annoyance.
