With the 15th General Election (GE15) gaining tempo, a well-known tudung entrepreneur has taken advantage of the season to create headscarves with the logos of political parties, and these have become a hit.

Co-founder of ‘tudung bawal Kekaboo’, Nur Hazwani Abdul Zainal, said 11,000 pieces of square headscarves were sold in less than 20 minutes after the design was uploaded on the brand’s website last Wednesday (Oct 19).

Among the 13 party logos selected as motifs on the headscarves are Barisan Nasional, UMNO, PKR, PAS, Bersatu, Amanah and Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA).

"There has not been any big event in Malaysia for quite some time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So we want to create a warm and lively atmosphere for this quinquennial event,” she told Bernama.

As this was the first time the brand came up with such designs since its inception in 2014, the 31-year-old woman did not expect such an overwhelming response and aimed to produce more than 50,000 headscarves until GE15.

Nur Hazwani said the idea for creating the tudung designs was to meet the demand of customers from various political parties and offer products according to seasons and current trends.

"Initially, we uploaded a video to showcase seven samples of the tudungs on TikTok...after three hours, I had the intention of deleting the video but saw the extraordinary amount of feedback in the comments section, and we even received 10,000 likes for the posting,” she said.

She said the headscarves made from voile cotton are offered in two sizes, namely 45 inches and 50 inches, priced at RM28 and RM38, respectively, and are available on the brand’s website and through agents and stockists nationwide.
