BAYAN LEPAS – Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hints that there is no discussion or meeting with the Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) Chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the time being.

He however said that at this time it was more appropriate to meet the public to focus on the problems they faced, instead of bringing up personal disputes and so on.

"When? What cooperation? Who said anything? I said if we want to discuss, anyone can discuss.

“There may be a meeting. If needed today, I am in Penang, tomorrow in Sabah, the day after in Sarawak. For now, it is better that I meet the people.

"Therefore, in the current situation, the proposal (to) hold the meeting does not seem to have existed yet. There have been dozens of meetings before, so that is why I am referring more to the basis of whether it is true that we reject corruption, not to only reject Umno.

"This is not just about rejecting Najib and Zahid, but rejecting the system that supports and approves of corruption, tyranny, insulting people and race," he said at a press conference after he attended the Penang PKR Dinner at the Spice Arena, here, on Saturday.

Anwar said he was more inclined to see this election based on the programmes offered to the people as well as the authority of the leadership to restore the economy and raise the status of the country.

Previously, Anwar, who is also PKR President, said he was ready to meet with Dr Mahathir to discuss cooperation in conjunction with the 15th General Election (GE15).

But according to him, the coalition must first explain what principles will be brought for the future of the country.

Anwar said this to comment on Dr Mahathir's statement that he was ready to meet him to cooperate in blocking the Umno-led government, BN from continuing in power through GE15 on Nov 19.

In the meantime, when asked if he had received a request to meet from Dr Mahathir, Anwar however refused to comment further.
