ALOR SETAR - Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) does not rule out the possibility of establishing cooperation with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the 15th General Election (GE15).

GTA deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said initial discussions between two parties have begun with both coalition aiming to defeat Barisan Nasional.

"The step to hold discussions comes from the desire for all parties to ensure BN loses in GE15.

"Our priority is to defeat BN. Due to that, all the differences between us are trivial and we can sit down to discuss on cooperation," he said at a press conference here on Saturday.

Mukhriz said it does not matter if they will cooperate with PN or Pakatan Harapan (PH) as long as both parties have the same goals.

"We don't care which one, so far there seems to be a positive response from PN.

On Friday, Pejuang chieg Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a recorded video clip uploaded on social media expressed his willingness to meet Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for join hands on GE15.

Mukhriz said they could either establish a coalition or form an alliance to avoid overlapping of seats.

"There is also a study stating one party or coalition will not be able to form a government alone after GE15.

"So, if we already know that's the situation, why don't we start cooperation before the election instead of looking for an alliance after the election," he said.

Mukhriz said to form a stable government, it would be better to draw an agreement before the election as there are concerns that a coalition formed after elections may not last, inviting voter's wrath.

"It is worrying that that people will be disappointed if a new coalition was signed after the general election and feel as if they have been cheated like what happened before (Sheraton's move).
