Xinjiang authorities have imprisoned hundreds of thousands of Uighurs, Kazakhs, and other Muslims in detention camps since years ago.

The inmates were subjected to months or years of indoctrination and interrogation in order to convert them into secular and become supporters of the party.

The majority of those jailed were Uyghurs, a Turkic-speaking ethnic group based in China's northwestern region of Xinjiang in which they were forced to face detentions, extensive monitoring, forced labour, coerced sterilisation and rights violations.

Watch our exclusive interview with Uyghur American activist and advocate Rushan Abbas and her husband Abdulhakim Idris to talk about the issue and the ill-fate of her sister who had been abducted by the Chinese government in 2018.
