KUALA LUMPUR - While many political figures are still offering themselves to run in the 15th General Election (GE15) despite having served more than three terms as a representative of the people, Umno Padang Rengas Division Chief, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz remains firm to give way to other candidates in the seat he won for the past six terms.

Astro Awani reported that Nazri said it was about time that he make the space for and give an opportunity to the youth to compete in Padang Rengas.

"Many asked if I still stand by the decision made a year ago, so today I want to answer that, yes, I still do.

"We have to give new faces a chance, while there is totally not going to be another Nazri Aziz, but every individual will have their own gift," he said.

A year ago, Nazri announced that he would not defend the Padang Rengas parliamentary seat in GE15 to make way for new candidates.

Currently, each party was at the final stage to decide which candidates would compete in the GE15, which will be held on Nov 9.

On Thursday, the Election Commission (EC) announced that the nomination of candidates would be held on Nov 5 and the campaigning period will run for 14 days.

GE15 must be held within 60 days after the caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament last Oct 10. - AWANI
