GE15 proof that BN is not power-hungry
SHAH ALAM - Barisan Nasional (BN) youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that the dissolution of Parliament and implementation of the 15th General Election (GE15) are proof that the party is not power-hungry.
This, he said was because after BN took over the government, the coalition decided to return to right to vote to the people.
"The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 19 as the D-Day for the country. This is the time for the mandate to be returned to the rakyat.
"It's strange when there are still accusations that we are “gila kuasa” (power-hungry).
"If we are crazy about power, we will fight for the Prime Minister post like Pakatan Harapan (PH) did before. If we are crazy about power, we will definitely declare a state of emergency and suspend Parliament.
"But we returned the mandate to the people. This is because we are always confident that people are wise and are able to judge which government is glass and which is a gem," he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
He said BN has always been consistent on the issue since the Pakatan Harapan (PH) crisis at the end of February 2020.
He said because there was no Prime Minister at the time, no party had the right to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament, thus not fulfilling Article 55 of the Constitution.
"This is one of the issues why Parliament should not be dissolved at that time apart from the Covid-19 pandemic. It denies the accusation that BN was power-hungry which led to the backdoor government.
"Similarly, after becoming part of the government, we are still asking for the mandate to be returned. But the some were greedy which caused the declaration of emergency,” he said.
He claimed that the emergency at that time was the beginning of a failed government.
