SHAH ALAM - Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi slams the incumbent Langkawi Member of Parliament, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who said that his party has diverted from its original crusade -- which is to safeguard the interests of the Malays.

He said Umno is currently still sticking to its three main goals which centered on religion, nation and the homeland.

"However, Umno after 2003 is no longer Tun’s (Dr Mahathir) Umno; it belongs to the people," he said through a post on his Facebook today.

In his statement on Sunday, Dr Mahathir who is also the former prime minister said that he asked Zahid to disband Umno after the 14th General Election (GE14) because he believed that the party only cared about money.

Zahid remarked that the actions of Dr Mahathir, who is also Pejuang chairman, was just a ploy to eliminate competitors of the party that he was spearheading at that time -- Pribumi Bersatu.

"He is worried that Umno will rise again and take revenge.

"I never intended to insult Tun (Mahathir) in my statement. But I have to show the truth," Zahid added.
