State Secretary Datuk Tengku Farouk Husin Tengku Abd Jalil said the event, scheduled to take place at the Terengganu International Endurance Park (TIEP) in Setiu on Dec 17, is a continuation of last season's Monsoon Ride competition.
He said that in addition to bringing together cycling fans, the tournament also aims to boost Terengganu's economic growth through sports tourism.
"This competition will have six categories - four categories in International and Novice and one each in 'Fun Off-Road' and 'Fun On-Road'.
"This 37-kilometre (km) route will test the endurance of cyclists in the rainy weather during the northeast monsoon (MTL) season," he said at a press conference today which was also attended by state Youth Development, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisation committee chairman Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah
In addition, Tengku Farouk expects the 2022 International Golden Monsoon Ride to be more upbeat because the cash prizes and goods offered are more lucrative than last year, a larger number of participants and its international status.
"The prizes we offer in the form of cash amount to more than RM20,000 while the goods are more lucrative with a total value of RM112,300.
"The biggest prize is a Myvi 1.3 Auto car, a Y15ZR motorcycle and a Yamaha NVX motorcycle which is the dream bike of today's youth," he said.
He added that the competition, which is listed in the state's tourism calendar, has also been recognised as an international cycling event by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS). - BERNAMA
