Ceiling price for standard whole chicken maintained at RM9.40 per kg

PUTRAJAYA - The government has maintained the previous ceiling price for whole chickens and eggs sold in the Peninsular, the Federal Territories as well as Sabah and Sarawak.

This meant that price cap for standard sized whole chicken will be ratained at RM9.40 per kilogramme (kg) and RM10.40 per kg for the super sized chicken.

As for chicken eggs solde in the Peninsular, the ceiling prices were fixed at 45 cent each for grade A; 43 cent for grade B and 41 cent for grade C.

For Langkawi, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, the price cap for whole chicken and eggs will vary depending on the respective zones and districts the said groceries are sold at.

The announcement was made by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof in a statement issued today, informing that the maximum chicken price at all levels; namely farm, wholesale and retail, remained the same.

Azman disclosed that the price cap can be maintained due to the revival of the chicken and eggs subsidies at 80 each for farm operators.

He also mentioned that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries were collaborating with KPDNHEP in monitoring sufficient supply of necessities in the country and to keep a lookout for price instabilities

A total of 2,249 enforcement officers had been mobilised to wet markets, pasar tani and hypermarkets across the country to carry out daily inspections, added Azman.
