KUALA LUMPUR - A student group has asked the Election Commission (EC) to be considerate on the polling date as some university students will organise convocation during weekdays.

Persatuan Kebangsaan Pelajar Islam Malaysia (PKPIM) President Ahmad Farhan Rosli said EC had the authority under the Constitution to decide on nomination date, campaigning period, early voting date and voting day.

"The previous election was on Wednesday, May 9, 2018," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He added the matter was important as students represent a large portion of 5.74 million eligible voters aged 18 to 30 in GE15.

"PKPIM suggests for the EC to set a voting day on Saturday or Sunday to give space for students, youth and Malaysians to return to their areas for their responsibilities as voters in the elections.
