SHAH ALAM - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to announce the dissolution of Parliament today..
According to his schedule, he will be at Malaysia in Digital Entrepreneurs Centre in Kuala Lumpur to attend MIC general assembly today at 2.30pm.
It is not known if the announcement will be made in the same event or separately.
Sinar Harian reported that it is understood that Ismail Sabri met the King yesterday evening to request for Parliament to be dissolved before the King leaves to London. The King will be in London till Oct 16 to meet Britain's new king, King Charles III.
Ismail Sabri is expected to meet his Cabinet and Umno supreme council to inform them of his meeting with the King.
It is also understood that Istana Negara will be issuing an official statement on the King's decision to allow the dissolution of the Parliament.
The scenario brings back the nation to the days of 1999 when Parliament was dissolved after the budget was tabled on Oct 29.
The then prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had announced the dissolution of Parliament on Nov 10, 1999.
There have been several hints of elections this year, among them are anti-hopping laws that were approved and enforced on Oct 5, 2022.
