JEMPOL - Fake dental braces might look cool and fashionable but those who are tempted to wear one should bear in mind that doing so could lead to permanent tooth loss.

This was the reminder from Negeri Sembilan Health Department's dental practice and development unit senior assistant director, Dr Rosnah Atan who advised Malaysians not to be deceived by quacks promising quick and easy dental braces installation.

"Usually, fake dentists will claim that the braces can be easier and faster to be fitted by them, which is why people are easily duped by them.

"Whoever does so, will face the risk of permanent tooth loss," she said.

She issued the warning during her speech at the 'Bogus Practitioners of Denture and Braces Installation' talk programme, organised by the Health Ministry (MOH), in conjunction with the Negeri Sembilan Keluarga Malaysia Aspirations Tour (AKM Tour), here, today.

Rosnah added these health hazards were mostly installed at unregistered premises such as private residences and the customers' home.

Tampin Dental Clinic orthodontic specialist, Dr Cheok Chieh How who also spoke at the programme also urged the public to have their braces fitted at a registered dental clinic.

He added the equipment used to fix fake dental braces by illegal dental practitioners were usually not disinfected.
