DUNGUN - A mechanic dies after being crushed by a bulldozer while attempting to fix the heavy machinery at an iron ore mine in Bukit Besi, here, on Thursday.

Kong Hon Meng, 63, from Negeri Sembilan succumbed to his injuries on his body at the scene in the incident which took place at about 6pm.

Dungun district police chief Superintendent Baharudin Abdullah said initial investigation found that the victim was on the chain wheel of the bulldozer while he was repairing it alone.

"Investigations found that it happened when the victim was trying to jump start the machine using a jumper before it started to move forward.

"This had caused the victim to fall on the ground and crushed by the machine," he said when contacted on Friday.

Baharudin said a few of the victim's friends who realised what had happened then tried to stop the machinery.

"The victim was brought to the Dungun Hospital Forensics Unit for further action. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
