GE15: PN ministers submit letter to Agong

PUTRAJAYA - Bersatu vice-president Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin confirms that 12 Perikatan Nasional (PN) ministers have submitted a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong stating that they do not want the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held this year.

The ministers, he said were of the view that the people's welfare needed to be the main priority.

"I confirm that PN ministers have sent the letter to the King seeking for GE15 to not be held in the near future," he said.

The Senior Education Minister said there were many things that needed to be settled first by the ministry before GE15 took place.

"There are many structural matters we want to properly implement,” he told reporters after the 2022 Education sector National Language Decade celebration, here, today.

On Tuesday, PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin instructed PN ministers in the cabinet to state their stance on the irrationality of GE15 to be held this year following the monsoon season starting soon.

Asked whether Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob knew about the letter, Radzi said “it is in the news, maybe he knows,” he said.

Commenting on the list of candidates, he said the grassroots leadership had received the names suggested by the Bersatu divisions throughout the country.

"Now the list of candidates is being filtered before a decision is made on which candidates and areas to contest in," he said.

He said the number of seats contested depended on the party's decision.

"There are many criteria set, but what is important is the candidate is clean and has integrity in line with the goals and objectives of the party's struggle for a country with integrity, an efficient government and good governance," he said.

Radzi said as the Bersatu Election Committee chairman, he had looked into the matters from all angles, among others considering the demands of the Srikandi wing that wanted the composition of candidates to take into account 30 per cent of women.
