State Welfare, Women Development, Family and National Unity committee chairman Hanafiah Mat said the Social Welfare Department had distributed food supply and basic necessities to 149 frontline depots and 17 mini depots throughout the state early this month.
"The distribution process was done in stages and expected to be finalised soon. Throughout the state, 300 locations have been identified as flood prone areas this year. However, with early preparations in place, we will be able to handle situations of flood unless such a condition is beyond anyone’s expectation,” Hanafiah told reporters here today.
He said this when met during the Terengganu level 2022 Senior Citizens Day clebrations that was held at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), and attended by the state Social Welfare Department director Mazura Ngah Abd Manan and UMT vice chancellor Prof Datuk Mazlan Abd Ghaffar.
Hanafiah said as announced before, the state government had allocated RM2.5 million to initiate early preparations to face possible floods while temporary hospitals have also been ordered to be set up at every district.
He said setting up temporary hospitals was important to provide medical aid and first aid to those who fall ill while being housed at flood relief centres, before being transferred to general hospitals.
On another note, Hanafiah said the state government was in the process of identifying the right location to build the Baitul Ummi senior citizens care centre.
"The decision was announced during the 2022 Budget with an allocation of RM500,000. We will collaborate with several non-governmental organisations to ensure a conducive centre is build for senior citizens," he said. - BERNAMA
