Umno ideal pair for Pas

SHAH ALAM - Umno is the best and most ideal pair for Pas to cooperate with in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Political analyst and the National Council of Professors senior fellow Dr Jeniri Amir said this was because Umno had the advantage in terms of the number of members and grassroots machinery compared to Bersatu.

"It must be remembered that Bersatu only won 13 seats from the previous election.

"The additional seats were a result of party hopping by Umno members and the party considered it as an act of betrayal," he told Sinar Harian on Monday.

Jeniri said Pas needed to make a careful consideration in choosing its pair that would give benefits to it.

"It needs to consider the conditions and demands from Umno.

"If Umno and Pas were to cooperate, it will give benefits to both parties and could even lead them to win more seats in GE15 compared to Pas working with Bersatu.

"Because the election is coming soon, Pas needs to make a final decision in considering which party would benefit them the most,” he said.

Apart from that, he said Pas should immediately make a decision so that discussions and strategy planning in terms of seats division could be made immediately.

He said Pas should return to the basis of their previous struggle with Umno which was Muafakat Nasional (MN).

"If Pas had made its decision based on political calculations, it would give them room to move towards the future," he said.
