Pahang WI hosting 30th ACWW Triennial World Conference, next year
KUALA LUMPUR: The Pahang Women's Institute (WI) will be hosting the 30th Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) Triennial World Conference from May 17 until May 25, next year.
Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah who is the Pahang WI chairman said over 500 delegates from all over the world is expected to attend the conference to discuss women issues.
“The conference is supposed to take place in Pahang, but since I am here, it would be brought in Kuala Lumpur and will be held at the Marriot Hotel, Putrajaya," she said during a press conference with strategic partners of the conference at the Istana Negara Club House, here, today.
ACWW is an international organisation established in 1929 and headquartered in London, United Kingdom (UK) with more than nine million members and 426 women's organisations from 84 countries around the world.
Tunku Azizah said Pahang WI has already made a bid at the 28th edition of the conference at Warwick University in the UK and at the 29th conference in Melbourne, Australia to be the host for the 30th ACWW conference in Malaysia.
"In order to fulfill the requirement of organising a one-day visit, Pahang WI planned four packages that had been submitted and approved by the ACWW Board of Trustees.
"Site visits have also been made in January 2022 by ACWW World President Magdie de Kock, its World Deputy President Alison Burnett, Executive Director Tish Collins and Director of Advocacy and Communications Nick Newland," she said.
Her Majestry said the programmes that had been lined up for participants included visits to the Department of Orang Asli Development (Jakoa) Complex in Gombak, the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (Frim) in Kepong, the National Craft Institute in Rawang and Multimedia University in Cyberjaya.
She said the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is expected to deliver the keynote address at the conference.
