SHAH ALAM - Umno's decision to suspend several of its members are based on collective decision for the party's benefit, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Umno president said there were so self-interest individuals behind the decision as it was agreed unanimously for Umno's benefit.

"As the 15th General Election (GE15) is approaching, the consensus, togetherness and unity of Umno should be strengthened.

"Any divisive or disruptive elements are dealt with as best as possible with an appropriate response.

"The same goes for internal elements who try to discredit the party's leadership institution which is a bastion for Umno's struggle," he said.

Zahid added another party could use the same measure to ensure their leadership institution was respected.

He further stressed it was no longer a time to look back and Umno had taken actions for the benefit of the party.

"What happened was an affirmation by the party that Umno is never about individuals.

Zahid further added they prioritised the works and preparations for GE15 until the significant date has been decided.

On Friday, after the Umno Supreme Council meeting was held at the party’s headquarters in WTCKL, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan announced the removal of several Umno members from their membership.

This includes the removal of Datuk Zaharin Mohd Yasin and suspension of Umno Pasir Salak Division Chief Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.
