SHAH ALAM - Corruption and inefficiency of the delivery system must be tackled in Budget 2023, says an NGO, adding that this is to ensure taxpayers' money is well spent.
Muslim NGO Ikram's Usaid Asmadi said the two main enemies must be overcome to ensure the budget achieves its targeted objectives.
In a statement, he further said corruption has a negative impact on the country's development and the country's leaders can no longer take the matter lightly.
"Corruption slows down the country's development because the cost of management and administration doubles just to meet the demands of hidden hands.
"This increase in cost does not make the delivery machinery run more efficiently, but rather only fills the pocket pockets of a particular person on the basis of 'helping to get a project'," he said.
Usaid said the government should ensure the budget is utilised through transparent procedures to discourage any party from exploiting it for personal gain.
Leakages in the delivery system also need to be looked into to curb wastage of government funds, he added.
