SHAH ALAM - It is impossible for Malaysians to perform Haj with the current waiting period policy in which they have to wait 130 years to perform Haj in Mecca, said former Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Nik Mohd Hasyudeen Yusoff.

In his recent Facebook post, he said over 200,000 Malaysias have opened TH accounts in the first six months of the year and they are eligible for haj registration with an RM1,300 minimum deposit.

“Upon registration, depositors are informed that the waiting period is about 130 years.

“This is because the number of registered depositors is large compared to the annual Haj quota,” he he said.

He reckoned 130-year waiting period is well beyond one's lifespan: “Even if we register our grandchildren, there are no Malaysians that have lived that long,” he told Sinar Daily when contacted.

When it comes to savings, he said most of the members have realised the importance of saving but even with the huge savings some may not be able to perform haj due to the current policy.

He said there are solutions.

In his post, he suggested that to register for Haj, a depositor should have a deposit that is almost equal to the Haj payment that meets all religious requirements.
